Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Department (SEND)
The Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Department at RMGS consists of eight members of staff; the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCO), School Support Inclusion Manager and a team of Learning Support Assistants.
We believe strongly in inclusive education and strive to ensure that every young person attending RMGS feels equally valued and respected, reaches their full potential and is able to participate on an equal basis in the many different activities within the school community. We actively celebrate difference.
The SEND Department at RMGS does not operate in isolation. All teaching and support staff work closely with the department to ensure that, as far as reasonably possible, the learning needs of students are identified and addressed. Through the relationship and partnership with parents and external agencies, if necessary, we look to develop teaching and learning strategies that embrace all learners.
The school has a comprehensive policy for meeting the needs of those students who have a special educational need.
The four primary areas of need are:
- Cognition and learning
- Communication and interaction
- Social, emotional and mental health
- Sensory and/ or physical need
We believe that any provision should:
- Match the needs of the individual student
- Take account of the wishes and feelings of the student
- Be in partnership with the student's parents
The SEND Department are a caring and dedicated team who strive to ensure that those with learning difficulties and disabilities receive the necessary support to achieve their full potential and enjoy the experience of being a student at this school.
