Gatsby Requirements/Baker Clause
Statutory guidance for careers education published in January 2018 introduced the Gatsby Benchmarks. It is expected that schools will use the benchmarks as an audit tool and it is an expectation that schools will meet them in full by the end of 2020.
The Baker Clause
Introduced as an amendment to the Technical and Further Education Act 2017, the Baker Clause stipulates that schools must allow colleges and training providers access to every student in Years 8 to 13 to discuss non-academic routes that are available to them. In line with this, our students are provided with access to providers at careers events such as the school careers fair and UCAS Higher Education exhibition. Outside-provider talks include those offered by the Armed forces, Police, National Citizens Service and Ask Apprenticeships. Further education providers offering T levels are present at school careers fairs and work experience provider opportunities are regularly shared to provide a range of non-academic opportunities for these year groups.
