Our Careers Provision KS3, KS4 & KS5

Whole school Career Programme

The RMGS career programme is formulated from the RMGS Career Policy, the 25-26 Career Strategy, the Gatsby Benchmarks and feedback from the annual student career audit. More detail on each event can be found below:

All secondary students:

  • Will have access to Unifrog from Year 7 - 13.
  • Access to our Career 1-2-1 meetings with our Careers Adviser Mrs Williams from Tuesday to Thursday.
  • Access to Career Resources and updates via our Website, After School Career Surgeries, Careers office, Careers Teams page, Lessons, Form Time and Assemblies 
  • Every student has the opportunity to become a Career Champion for their year - to work with the Careers Lead on feedback, status and ideas for the Careers Programme.
  • Have one subject and one PSHE lesson per term which is Career specific. 
  • Have a School Wide designated Career Week in November
  • Have the opportunity to feedback on the career provision each year
  • Access to a programme of Talks after-school delivered by Businesses and Organisations on their Career Pathways and Industries. 
  • Has at least one Assembly from an Apprenticeship provider
  • All SEND students offered priority careers 1-2-1 meetings with Mrs Williams

Key Stage 3
  • Students partake in the STEM Roadshow in year 7, which we are particularly proud of.  
  • Year 7, 8 & 9 students take part in PAL Live
  • Year 7, 8 & 9 students take part in a Careers Week in Term 3
  • All Year 8 students have an Assembly from an external Apprenticeship Provider
  • All Year 8 students attend the Inspirational Learning Event in Term 3
  • Some year 8 students attend the ADA Lovelace Day at Kent Science Park
  • All Year 9 students attend the annual Careers Fair in Term 3.
  • All Year 9 students participate in an Apprenticeship session delivered by an external provider in Term 3
  • All year 9 students have a statutory careers interview with our in house careers adviser, who will give clear, impartial advice on careers and employability.  This is to prepare them for their GCSE choices. 
Key Stage 4
  • All year 11 students have a 1-2-1 meeting with the Careers Adviser and SLT in Term 3. 
  • Year 10 take part in 5 days Work Experience in Term 4
  • Year 10 have an assembly from CXK on Career Pathways and options.
  • Year 10 students have an assembly from an External Apprenticeship Provider
  • All Year 10 & 11 students invited to the UCAS Virtual Careers Fair
Key Stage 5
  • 6th Form students can visit the offices of Clifford Chance
  • 6th Form have the option to attend Army Medical interactive session
  • 6th Form students can join the Medicine Society during lunchtimes and take part in mock interviews
  • Year 12 undertake 5 days Work Experience.
  • Year 12 have assembly from CXK talking about career paths and options.
  • Year 12 have Talks from Apprenticeship Providers including Kent Police
  • Year 12 students get access to an additional 3 days for independent Work Experience
  • Year 12 attend the UCAS Exhibition.
  • Fortnightly sessions on Unifrog to work on personal statements and applications
  • Programme of Mock interviews for 6th Form Students in Term 3
  • Post 18 2 Day event for Year 12 students - which includes sessions from Coca Cola, Kent University and a programme of Talks from over 15 Businesses. 
  • 6th Form invited to attend the UCAS virtual Career Fair
  • 6th Form have option to attend UCA talk in lesson time
  • Year 13 UCA Book a Bus event.
  • Year 13 students have Talks from Cambridge and Oxford Liaisons.
  • Tailored support around UCAS applications and submissions 
  • Year 13 have the opportunity to have face-to-face or virtual meetings with outreach universities. 

OUR PROGRAMME IS REVIEWED AND ASSESSED ANNUALLY, USING A NUMBER OF SOURCES OF INFORMATION, SUCH AS PUPIL SURVEYS THROUGH MICROSOFT TEAMS, NUMBER OF NEETS (THOSE NOT IN EDUCATION OR EMPLOYMENT) AND LOOKING AT ONWARD DESTINATIONS (APPRENTICESHIPS, UNIVERSITIES, JOBS).
