House System

The House System forms an integral part of student Belonging at RMGS.  All students are allocated to a House when they are enrolled.  They form a vertical system and ensure that students are not only part of their own year group but also have ties to other year groups through the House.

Each of the eight Houses can be identified by a colour which students wear as a flash on their blazers.

Each House is led by a House Captain from the prefect team.  Each form selects two House Officers who then meet termly and work closely with the Captains to engage students in activities, competitions and the overall House points challenge.  The winning house at the end of each year gets to celebrate with Champions Day.

House points can be gained by all members of the House through the rewards point systems.  ARCH points and Colours are cumulated each half term and shared in House Assemblies which take place at the end of each term.  These are student led and include recurring elements:

  • Belonging theme of the term.

  • Presentation of half and full colour awards.

  • House highlights to celebrate individual successes and share positive messages.

  • House challenge (in the assembly e.g. cup stacking;  or a competition for the term e.g. house crest design competition).

All department areas have a set of criteria that students can complete to gain Aspiration half or full colours.  There are also colours beyond the curriculum for Respect, Curiosity & Happiness (Health & Wellbeing).  In essence, the personal development programme is thread through these additional challenges that allow students scope to deepen their learning and growth at RMGS whilst also being recognised for their effort.
