Personal Development

At Rainham Mark Grammar School, our vision is to nurture aspirational young people who are curious and respectful of the world around them and have the courage to pursue happiness.  Our values-led approach to education will enable RMGS students to become responsible citizens with a social conscience able to make positive contributions to their local and global communities.  Our personal development programme aims to develop our students through the four ARCH pillars.

  • Aspiration – motivation, confidence and resilience.

  • Respect – acceptance without exception, empathy and self-respect.

  • Curiosity – open-minded, growth mindset and engaged as citizens.

  • Happiness - self-care, care of others, a healthy lifestyle and the development of strong community networks at a range of scales.

We will work with all areas of school life to ensure that our students have the widest range of opportunities to develop these ARCH attributes.

The core strands of delivery take place through timetabled PSHE lessons, the pastoral programme including assemblies, a comprehensive careers programme, and a full enrichment programme which includes student leadership, clubs, trips and in subject curriculum extension opportunities.

An exciting addition to our full programme in 2025-26 is the introduction of a brand new ARCH week.  This will be a week of enrichment activities ranging from team building days, careers opportunities, an ethics conference, and residential visits to name a few.  The full programme will be published later in the year but we excited to announce that the week will kick off with the return of ANVIL!  This is our very own RMGS Carnival, designed to celebrate our history, culture and ethos of belonging.
