‘Bring the Fire!’ Splendid Productions bring their production of ‘The Oresteia’ to RMGS
On the 26th March Splendid Productions brought their production of ‘The Oresteia’ to RMGS.
Splendid’s touring production for 2018/2019 is Kerry Frampton’s new adaptation of Aeschylus’s tragic trilogy 'The Oresteia'. The three plays ('Agamemnon', 'The Libation Bearers' and 'The Eumenides') are adapted into a single hour-long piece with a multi-roling cast of three. Splendid present an epic, murderous tale of family, history, vengeance and honour in a story nearly as old as theatre.
Condensing Aeschylus’s classic trilogy into an hour, Splendid’s regally clever cast of three retell the story of King Agamemnon, his queen Clytemnestra, and their children, Iphigenia, Electra and Orestes. The focus is a legendary family born to power, but destined to rip itself apart in a bloody cycle of tragedy. The students were gripped with the performance.
Helen Macken, Head of Drama, said it is: ‘An incredibly talented cast of three strong women making a clear social and political stand through the medium of theatre!’
These touring theatre groups are a vital way for schools to increase students’ high quality cultural capital from an industry-led workshop. It is a very important part of the GCSE learning as students are able to practise their skills in live theatre evaluation.
